Way Up High In The Apple Tree

This fingerplay has been around for quite some time. This is a great fingerplay to use when talking about apples, the number five, or as a way to practice counting from one to five.

Way up high in the apple tree,

Five red apples smiled at me.

I shook that tree as hard as I could.

Down came an apple,

Mmm, it was good.

(Remove one apple)



Way up high in the apple tree,
Four red apples smiled at me.
I shook that tree as hard as I could.
Down came an apple,
Mmm, it was good.

(Remove another apple then repeat for three, two, then...)

Way up high in the apple tree,
One red apple smiled at me.
I shook that tree as hard as I could.

A tiny little pumpkin seed
was planted in the ground.

Waiting for the day
it would grow big and round.

"On halloween night"
the tiny seedling said.

I want to be a Jack-O-lantern
with a great big head!

Apple Sauce

Pick an apple
Hold fist up in the air

Chop it up
Move hand in chopping motion

Then put it in a pot


Stir the apple
Move hand in a stirring motion

And when it’s hot

Its apple sauce you’ve got!
